A bathroom remodel happens indoors, so snow and cold don't hold it up. Booking it over the winter means it can be done before spring, when outdoor projects fill everyone's calendar.
Decide what you are changing
Most bathroom updates keep the layout as it is and change the finishes: new tile, a vanity with its top, a toilet, faucets and a shower head, LVP flooring and fresh paint. Keeping the plumbing where it is keeps the project simpler.
Write down what bothers you about the room today. A cramped vanity, dated tile, a toilet that runs, poor storage or a dark corner. That list shapes the project better than a photo of someone else's bathroom.
Know what needs a licensed pro
Moving the toilet, the shower drain or the sink to a new spot, or adding new circuits, is work for a licensed plumber or electrician. Our craftsmen handle the basic plumbing and electrical in a bathroom update, like swapping faucets, toilets and light fixtures.
Pick materials early
Choose tile, the vanity and fixtures before the work starts. It keeps the crew moving instead of waiting on a delivery halfway through the job. Measure the space for the vanity, including door swing and the distance to the toilet, before you order.
Tile, vanity and floor choices
Tile. Larger tiles mean fewer grout lines to clean. Small tiles or mosaics give better grip on a shower floor. Order extra for cuts and breakage, and keep a few spares after the job.
Vanity. Drawers usually hold more than a cabinet with doors. A vanity with its top already fitted is the simplest swap.
Floor. LVP is warm underfoot, handles splashes and suits a bathroom that also gets a new vanity and paint.
Living with one bathroom
If it is your only bathroom, plan for the time it is out of use. Ask about the order of work, so the toilet is back in place as early as possible. Pick dates that work around visiting family over the holidays.
Steam and moisture
Steam that stays in the room ends up in the paint, the grout and the caulk. If the fan is noisy or the mirror stays fogged long after a shower, mention it at the estimate. Paint made for bathrooms handles steam better than standard wall paint, and fresh caulk around the tub and sink keeps water out of the walls.
Small changes that make a big difference
New lighting over the mirror, a fresh coat of paint, new towel bars and hooks, and a mirror or cabinet sized to the vanity. These are quick jobs that make the room feel finished. Hanging shelves adds storage without changing the layout.
